Monday
If we thought yesterday was a slow start, then today we’re actually not moving at all! Despite repeated assaults, Alysia manages to stay in bed until 3:45! In the meantime, we’ve been out to stroll the market, pick up stuff for dinner, have lunch, etc. We hang around until we just can’t stand it anymore and then drag her bodily from the nest, and “force” her out into the world. So what do we end up doing? SHOPPING! Well, and getting henna tattoos for Alysia and Ana in Piazza Navona. Then, off to show Christy the Pantheon (one of my favorite places for people-watching, as the tourists stumble off busses and work there way back to the pensioni (Boarding rooms) that are ubiquitous in the area), which is a fabulous way to see a chunk of old Rome. The Pantheon itself is closed (it’s too late!) and that, plus the thought that we want to COOK dinner tonight are leading A&A into becoming mutinous, so I offer them McDonald’s as a bribe for good behavior. They accept and the rest of the evening passes tranquilly.
On the way back to the apt, I take us a slightly different way and we stumble onto a lovely wine shop. A couple of reds and a white and we’re off to cook ourselves dinner.
After a delicious (if I do say so myself, even though it really is the ingredients) dinner of local sausage, fresh tomatoes and basil over pasta, salad and wine, we ponder the Meaning of Life for about 30 minutes and a couple more glasses of wine, and head out into the piazza for an after-dinner gelato for Ana and a limoncello for us. Short lived, and we head back to home and bed.
